A true Leader
I met Lena at the Diversity in Nurse Anesthesia Luncheon in 2008. I remember leaving saying, this is someone I must strive to emulate. She has a passion and drive for bringing to the forefront the issues that affect minorities when applying to Nurse Anesthesia programs and then maintaining those position in the program. The mentorship and encouragement she provides every step of the way to those of us in the program is remarkable if not outstanding. This motivation and encouragement usually comes at times when we are overwhelmed and hope may be fading, like the torch at the Olympics it usually ignites a fire that is difficult to put out once it starts burning (speaking from experience). Her crusade for minority inclusion and equality in the Nurse Anesthesia profession will spark changed that will be long-lasting because of her eloquence and perseverance. May God continue to give you strength and good health to continue your mission. Lena is truly a pioneer.
