Support System!

I first met Wallena Gould in 2008 at the divesity luncheon in NJ. That luncheon was very special because the AANA's first black president, Goldie Brangman, was there. She talked about the progress the AANA has made, but also about the fact that there is still a long way to go. It was on that day that I realized that the profession of nurse anesthesia is much bigger than just me. The continued success and growth of nurse anesthesia depends on the active involvement of all CRNA's. The autonomy in practice, good salaries and all of the things that make this great profession what it is depends on the strength of its participants. We need to build upon the foundation that great leaders like Ms. Brangman and Mrs. Gould and those before them have established. Mrs. Gould, in particular, is leading a crusade to literally change the face of nurse anesthesia so that there is a significant representation of all people in nurse anesthesia. I fully believe that as driven as she is, this is what God has put her on Earth to do, and she following her purpose. Thanks Wallena for being the driving force that is leading to an explosion of minority CRNA's. Truly, this is your gift, and the support system that you are creating for perspective CRNA's, SRNA's and practicing CRNA's is tremendous!
