Response to Prepping for Boards/Lena Gould, CRNA, MSN

Hello

Congratulations on completing the first year!

You should start studying for your Boards...now. After the completion of your first year, depending if it is an intergrated program, most of your didactic courses should be nearing to completion. You are transitioning into your specialty anesthesia rotations at this time. For instance, prior to your start of the pediatric rotation, read your pediatric chapters from Morgan & McKail's Clinical Anesthesiology or any Anesthesia Review Book every evening for at least four hours. In addition to reading two other chapters not related to your specialty rotation. You should be in " study board mode" now, not later while in the program. Some students make the mistake of reading from their texts one or two months prior to graduation. You can get confused with a concept or basic information for the Boards. You do not want points off for something you did not do as committing yourself to a study regime. If you can, find a study partner or group just as committed as you are in passing the test on the first attempt. Remember, you do not want to teach another student material just reinforce what you already know for this test.

Last point... when you read during the week and for at least six hours on the weekend, if you feel tired, take a very short break and read again!!! You will be fine, I am sure of it! I will enlist other new CRNAs and Nurse Anesthesia Students nearing completion to respond to your post.
