Picking an appropriate Masters Nursing Program/Adjusting to the profession

My name is Dana and I am just out of nursing school last May 2009. I was able to secure a position and and happy that I have a job, many of my graduating peers have just gone on to grad school because they have not been able to find employment. My dilemna is that since I have been out of school and started employment I noticed that I dave been treated differently than my other graduate nurses counterparts, also I have found that there is a lack of minority nurse leaders/ mentors in my facility who may be able assist me in the transition from being a student to a professional nurse. I have also had some issues with patients referring to me using degrading terms. I have gone to my supervisor and preceptor but their take on things are that some people are set in their ways and there is really nothing I or they can do about it. I have just stopped saying anything because I think they will think that I am too sensitive.

As for graduate school I am having a difficult time picking a school and a specific program. I am interested in the nurse practicioner program and also a program in leadership and managment or maybe an MBA. I wanted to a masters for a few reasons, for personal empowerment, to become a role model to others in my community, and also I feel that I can do more for the profession, for nurses and for patients if I had an advanced degree.

Is there anyone out there that may be able to give me some insight on how to navigate furthering my education.

Pls excuse the typos if there are any it's currently 0347am on my 12hr ovenight shift.
