Minority Nurse Anesthesia Diversity Program/Lena Gould
My name is Michelle and I am a nurse anesthesia student. I am blogging to express the fact that I feel that Lena Gould sets a phenomenal example of what giving back truly represents. It has been her passion to start this organization and it has definitely flourished. I feel that this organization serves its purpose and I have personally met and networked as well as received a great deal of encouragement from this organization. Lena is truly a pioneer in the anesthesia world as well as the minority nurse community. With the growing population of minorities and our new African-American president, it is time that the community take heed and know that we are here, we matter and we deserve representation. I truly hope that more minority nurses are exposed to this wonderful profession because surgery is a scary experience within itself and I feel that it is sometimes not only nice but therapeutic for patients to see a face that is similar to theirs.
Lena, I admire you for all that you have endured make this program a success. I am so proud and honored to know you and be involved in this wonderful organization. Keep up the awesome work because if you simply look where you have started and where you are now, you are on your way to meeting all the goals that you have set forth regarding your vision for this program. Your spirit has never been broken and I am forever grateful for all that you have done for me and I am sure that others that you have helped feel the same. You are doing something no one else has done so it is not going to be easy. Stayed determined and keep pushing forward.
