Nursing Instructor
Whatcom Community College, Bellingham, WA
Whatcom Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Nursing Instructor, beginning Fall Quarter 2008. College faculty teach an equivalent of 15 credits per quarter and participate in institutional governance. The College seeks faculty who can adapt to a variety of teaching situations, who are interested in applying technology to effective teaching, and who have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and global understanding.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with colleagues to develop, implement, evaluate and periodically review and revise the organizational framework, learning outcomes and curriculum of the program.
- Design, implement and teach instructional activities for the classroom, laboratory and clinical areas in a varied work schedule.
- Develop, implement and evaluate student practice experiences, including evaluating client and student safety and learning outcomes.
- Evaluate student achievement of identified learning objectives and outcomes, assign grades according to policies and recommend successful candidates for the degree.
- Develop and evaluate policies and standards for the selection, admission, promotion and graduation of nursing students within the framework of College policies.
- Act as nursing club advisor as needed.
- Maintain a professional development plan consistent with Washington State vocation educational certification requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited university that includes course work in nursing education or equivalent.
- Three years full-time nursing experience.
- Current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in Washington or the ability to obtain license by July 2008.
- In-depth understanding of nursing theory as well as practical application.
- Effective communication skills in both oral and written English.
- Able to pass background and drug checks as required by hospitals and clinics.
- Creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of community college mission and goals.
- Experience in teaching in a community college setting.
- Experience with team-centered work groups.
- Experience using simulation mannequins in an
educational clinical setting.
