REGISTERED NURSE - Health Service

Tufts University, Medford, MA

This position is 35 hours per week, 46 weeks per year; 2 days per week during July and August.

Tufts University's Health Service department seeks a customer-focused health care professional to fill its available Registered Nurse position. Health Service provides primary care to undergraduate and graduate students in a multidisciplinary setting. Their team consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychiatrists, medical assistants, lab technicians, nutritionist, drug and alcohol counselors, social workers, mental health counselors and support staff. Duties of the Registered Nurse include direct patient care that utilizes many skills, especially assessment and communication. Patient teaching, both informal (at the time of visit) and through planned outreach programs, provides a mechanism to contribute to the studentīs overall education. Relevant topics for this teaching include womenīs health issues, sexual assault, HIV, Gay/Lesbian/Transgender issues, substance abuse, ETOH abuse, just to name a few. Wellness is another priority. Health Service provides a safe, caring environment in which the team administers to the physical and emotional needs of Tufts' students.

The Registered Nurse is expected to be a member of a clinical team. He/she must be able to function independently, communicate well with students, parents, peers, support staff and management. The ability to efficiently triage, prioritize, initiate and follow through with IV hydration therapy is essential. Working in travel clinic, administering immunizations and allergy injections safely are all aspects of this position. Strong computer skills are also essential to work with the electronic medical system Health Service is now using. The Registered Nurse will also assist the clinical staff and ensures the efficient flow of patients through the department.

Basic Requirements:

1. RN license
2. Minimum of three (3) years of emergency department or ambulatory care required
3. BLS certified
4. Triage/phone triage experience, IV insertion, strong computer skills, excellent communication skills, written, verbal and the ability to communicate well with a diverse, collage age population
5. Restocking room with medical supplies requires the ability to lift Preferred Qualifications: A critical care background, with EMR experience is desirable.

Special Work Schedule Requirements: A rotating schedule of working the following shifts: Monday through Thursday, 8:00am- 4:00pm, 9:00am-5:00pm, 11:30am -7:30pm, Fridays the last shift is 10:30 am - 6:30 pm. Saturdays, 10:30am -5:30 pm. Also, holiday work is occasionally required. During July and August, two days per week are required. PLEASE APPLY ONLINE AT: www.tufts.edu/hr/jobs
