The School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte seeks energetic individuals motivated to make a difference.

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (www.uncc.edu), the state’s fourth largest university, is a rapidly growing research intensive institution located in one of the New South’s most beautiful cities with a population over 2 million in its metropolitan region. UNC Charlotte has more than 23,000 culturally diverse students enrolled in undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs in seven academic colleges. Both the number of students and academic programs, especially at the doctoral level, are expected to increase significantly in the near future.

Charlotte is the 26th largest city in the United States and is designated as one of the nation’s Hispanic hyper-growth areas. Charlotte’s location is ideal for enjoying mountains, coast, “Carolina blue skies,” cultural interests, professional sporting events and a vibrant city.

The School of Nursing is seeking individuals at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels for tenured or tenure-track 9-month appointments. Minimum qualifications include eligibility to obtain a license to practice nursing in North Carolina, a master’s degree in nursing, and a doctorate in nursing or a related field from a regionally accredited institution. Candidates planning to graduate in May of 2009 will be considered for assistant professor positions. The SON offers a variety of career enhancement strategies such as grant development, publication editor, mentorship in research within and outside the university setting, and development in classroom and online teaching.

The School of Nursing (http://nursing.uncc.edu/) serves over 530 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs, including the BSN, RN to BSN, and MSN. These programs are supported by a group of 35 enthusiastic full time faculty, including two distinguished professorships. The SON resides in the College of Health and Human Services (http://www.health.uncc.edu/), a multidisciplinary college with ongoing funded research in multiple areas. Located in a new 161,000 sq. ft. building, the School of Nursing has state-of-the art laboratories and “smart class” tech-nology in the classrooms.

A successful candidate must have a developing or on-going program of research. The School of Nursing research emphasis areas include vulnerable populations and broad areas of symptom management. Desirable characteristics include a program of research, experience in mentoring minority students, the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse faculty and student body, and expertise in areas of need in the MSN programs (e.g., Adult Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator). We welcome candidates with other desirable characteristics, such as teaching experience in DNP programs, online education experience, knowledge, practice or research in health disparities, and leadership in professional organizations.
