Approximately 12,000 students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees enroll at UWG each year. UWG is home to the state's only Honors College, complete with an honors curriculum. The university's Advanced Academy of Georgia is one of only about 12 U.S. programs that allow gifted high-school-age students to earn concurrent high school and college credit while living on campus in a full-time residential program. In the spirit of academic excellence, the School of Nursing (http://nursing.westga.edu/ ), is partnering with the Honors College to offer a Nurse Scholars program that will mentor academically talented pre-nursing and nursing students for undergraduate research, graduate education, and professional development to become nursing’s future scholars and leaders.
The School of Nursing: The UWG Tanner Health System School of Nursing is internationally recognized for its development and implementation of Caring Groups, an experiential strategy for learning caring in nursing. Faculty members work closely with both undergraduate and graduate students to create a supportive learning environment. The faculty is committed to creating a milieu for learning that fosters “educational excellence in a caring environment” and initiated an innovative concept-based BSN curriculum in summer 2012. The School of Nursing offers BSN, partially online RN-BSN/RN-MSN programs in Carrollton and Newnan and 100% online MSN and EdD programs. Master’s coursework specializes in Nursing Education or Health Systems Leadership with an option for the AACN Clinical Nurse Leader Role. The EdD in Nursing Education program admitted its first cohort of students in fall 2012. All BSN and MSN programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education through 2018. In fall 2013, the School of Nursing occupied a new 64,000 square foot building with state-of-the-art technology to support simulation and team-based, problem-based learning for 21st century nursing practice.
