JOB TITLE: Simulation Faculty
REPORTS TO: Chair, Department of Nursing

Position Summary: Simulation Faculty will provide oversight and teaching within contracted simulation labs. They will additionally be responsible for assessment of students’ competency. The Simulation Faculty collaborates with facility faculty to promote student acquisition of skills that are essential for professional nursing practice. The Simulation Faculty ensures that policies and procedures for safe practice are followed by all WGU students.

Responsibilities:
1. Develop curriculum for Skills/Simulation Labs which includes health assessment, clinical skills, medium and high fidelity simulation.
2. Determine most effective simulation experiences to assist students in developing competency.
3. Orient students regarding laboratory procedures, location and use of materials and the operation of the equipment in collaboration with site faculty.
4. Coordinate WGU student usage of the lab with Clinical Coordinator.
5. Reinforce online instruction of required skills by assisting students to apply broad scientific principles to skill performance while applying critical thinking.
6. Provide feedback to students with recommendations on planned learning activities.
7. Collaborate with nursing faculty regarding student performance of skills.
8. Assess students’ competency in skills and/or simulation using pre-defined rubrics.
9. Complete online documentation of assessment and transmit to WGU.
10. Support students who require additional assistance with learning clinical skills.
11. Send recommendations for further knowledge development to the academic faculty.
12. Stage equipment and supplies based on competencies, objectives/outcomes, in collaboration with facility faculty.
13. Integrate simulation technologies into the learning environment.
14. Monitor procedures for signing out lab equipment and any other learning resources such as AV material.
15. Participates in all faculty meetings.
16. Maintains a current inventory that tracks consumable supply costs, vendor information and usage history as a basis for recommendation for ordering supplies and determining supplies students must acquire.
17. Prepare a bi-annual report with strengths and weaknesses of the simulation lab experiences with recommendations to the Chair, Director, and faculty.
18. Attend in service education related to responsibilities.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:
1. Maintains current expertise in clinical skills and with standards of practice.
2. Effectively teaches with individuals and small groups.
3. Works collaboratively with faculty in identifying learning needs, and developing and implementing creative learning environments.
4. Maintain current expertise in use of equipment including but not limited to simulation models.
5. Possesses effective written and verbal communication skills.
6. Organizes, prioritizes and multitasks on a daily basis.
7. Works collaboratively with facility faculty and technical staff to maintain safe, current, interactive, equipped learning labs.

Qualifications:
1. A Masters degree in nursing is required.
2. Current California RN license required.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Leadership and organizational skills.
5. Recent teaching experience in clinical and/or nursing simulation/skills laboratory preferred.
6. Experience with patient simulations preferred.
7. Computer skills in Word, Excel, IBT, and online learning systems.
