Description
Under the coordination of the Associate Dean, School of Nursing, the Professional Service Specialist is responsible for performing basic professional nursing functions using established policies, procedures, precedents and guidelines; and does related work as required.
Examples of Work
- Acts as point of contact between students, School of Nursing and practicum sites.
- Creates and tracks affiliation agreements between School of Nursing and practicum site.
- Reviews and interprets practicum guidelines including criminal background checks, RN licensure requirements, and federal and/or state law requirements.
- Consults with the Associate Dean on a daily basis concerning progress on assignments, scheduling, and problem resolution.
- Coordinates activities with other staff and/or nursing professionals that relate to assigned responsibilities.
- Manages graduate program internal and external professional communications in nursing.
- Creates, monitors, and updates essential records and files related to graduate programs.
- Organizes and edits reports for the graduate programs in nursing.
- Handles telephone messages related to graduate programs.
- Creates and edits PowerPoint presentations for meetings and projects.
- Manages and types student graduate profiles.
- Prepares, edits, and proofreads correspondence on behalf of the School of Nursing graduate programs clinical practicums and initiatives.
- Attends and participates in meetings and/or college events related to assigned responsibilities.
- Researches special topics, as assigned, online or through the New Jersey State Library.
- Assists in coordination of special events related to graduate programs.
- Manages special projects and data relating to nursing graduate programs.
- Works with nursing program staff in planning and management of recruitment events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of the principles and techniques essential to performance of assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to acquire basic knowledge of college and hospital policies and procedures.
- Ability to understand, analyze, and interpret and apply established law, regulations, procedures, precedents and guidelines related to nursing.
- Ability to advise and counsel students and others concerning college programs, activities and services.
- Ability to establish cooperative working relationships and coordinate with the offices or organizations that impact on assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to review records and make recommendations concerning eligibility.
- Ability to represent the college by participating in or speaking at conferences, meetings, seminars, etc.
- Ability to prepare clear, technically sound, accurate and informative reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Ability to prepare correspondence.
- Ability to maintain essential records and files.
Requirements
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, a current NJ RN license, and two years nursing experience, or the equivalent as determined by the appointing authority.
Working professional knowledge of clinical practicums in nursing necessary. Nursing preceptor experience preferred.
Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and like software packages.
Must be well-versed in current nursing and medical terminology.
A Master's degree in Nursing may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
