Nurse-Midwifery Tenure Track Faculty Member
Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor Rank*
Education:
Minimum criteria:
1. Doctoral degree in nursing or related field.
2. Graduate level education and training in midwifery specialty.
3. Certification as a midwife from the American College of Nurse Midwives.
Highly desirable criteria:
1. Postdoctoral studies in midwifery or related field.
2. Strong foundation in biological, social, or behavioral sciences.
3. Educational training in curriculum development or teaching/learning theory.
Experience:
Minimum criteria:
1. Two years clinical experience in the practice of midwifery.
2. Clinical or didactic teaching experience.
3. Experience with women from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
4. Research experience related to specifically to midwifery or more broadly to the health care of women.
Highly desirable criteria:
1. Prior administrative responsibility for academic program development.
2. A program of research, documented by presentations and publications.
3. Recognized competency in research as a principal investigator.
4. Participation and potential for leadership, as demonstrated in state or national forums and organizations.
5. Clinical and classroom teaching experience at the graduate level.
6. Recent midwifery clinical experience in collaborative practice setting.
Areas of Responsibility:
1. Provide academic leadership for the midwifery graduate program.
2. Engage in clinical research projects.
3. Provide guidance and supervision for master’s students and doctoral students in developing their thesis or dissertation.
4. Develop and enhance collaborative relationships within the School of Nursing and with other health professionals at UCSF and in the midwifery community (local, state, national, and international).
5. Participate in supporting School of Nursing and University activities, including appointments to faculty committees.
6. Disseminate knowledge, primarily in the area of midwifery practice, through publications, participation, and presentations at professional meetings.
7. Function or develop capacity to serve as an expert consultant to others in the local, national, and international community.
8. Engage in community services and related activities.

Responsible to the Chair, Department of Family Health Care Nursing.
