Specific Position Characteristics: The successful candidate will be involved in teaching and research in the area of medical surgical nursing. Additional faculty responsibilities include advising students, participation on and chairing thesis committees, curriculum development, grant writing and service at all levels of the university. Specific assignments are dependent upon department needs. The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance-learning mode and encouraged to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction. Outcomes assessment and service learning are important components o the university curriculum. Faculty members are also expected to engage in service activities at all levels of the university and provide academic and professional advice to students. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with faculty.

Qualifications - Academic Preparation: An earned doctorate (Ph.D., or Ed.D.) from an accredited institution or equivalent in Nursing or a related field with a master's degree in nursing is required for appointment to a tenure track position. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered for a lectureship (temporary position) with the possibility of conversion to tenure track upon completion of the doctorate.

Qualifications - Teaching or Other Professional Experience: Experience in gerontology is desired. Eligibility for RN licensure in California and BRN certification for teaching in the assigned area are required. Experience teaching at the doctoral level or supervision of dissertations is desirable. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to or potential for teaching excellence and scholarly activity and successful grant writing at the university level. Candidates who demonstrate active participation or leadership roles in national, state or local nursing organizations or other relevant professional organizations and who exhibit a history of leadership and professional contributions to the field on Nursing are preferred. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
