CSU Channel Islands (CI) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Nursing with a medical surgical specialization. The candidate will function within the principles of CI including: commitment to interdisciplinarity, community service; evidence of on-going scholarly activities and research; commitment to student participation in the learning process; spirit of collegiality and collaboration; excellence in teaching; and experience working in a multiethnic, multilingual and multicultural environment. The successful candidate will plan, develop and teach pre-licensure Nursing Science classes in the classroom, clinical setting and the campus simulation lab at the CSU's newest campus. Duties associated with full-time faculty responsibilities to include but not limited to: maintain accurate student records/clinical grades, coordinate clinical instruction with other faculty; coordinate student experiences with clinical personnel; maintain communications between the University and clinical agencies including annual summation meetings; participate in curriculum development; participate in CCNE and BRN accreditation activities; develop and review department policies; participate in curriculum excellence by remaining current in the subject matter and techniques of effective instruction through recent clinical experience and professional development; participate in institutional governance, and participate in service to the community. Responsibilities include: teaching, university/community service and scholarly productivity. Assignment may include day, evening and weekend classes/clinical labs. Teaching will occur predominately at the new off-site campus in Santa Barbara. It is preferred that applicants be willing to work during the summer.
The successful candidate will possess leadership in teaching of baccalaureate level nursing and BRN content area, as well as teaching, scholarship and service accomplishments which align with the mission of CSU Channel Islands and achieve specific learning outcomes. Possession of, or eligibility for California RN license; at least one year experience in teaching courses related to Medical Surgical nursing or a course which includes practice in teaching nursing; at least one year of continuous full time experience in direct patient care practices as an RN within the last 3 years or eligibility for the Board of Registered Nursing approval to teach medical/surgical nursing. Clinical expertise in the practice of professional nursing and evidence of a program of scholarship.
