Georgia Southern University, School of Nursing, invites nominations and applications for four tenure track faculty positions (Assistant/Associate/Professor) in the areas of maternal-child health nursing, pediatric nursing, adult health nursing, critical care nursing, family nurse practitioner and community health nursing.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the School of Nursing, the successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include teaching in the classroom and clinical settings in the undergraduate and graduate programs, including the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. In addition, responsibilities include scholarship within the discipline yielding publications, service on committees, and participation in official activities of the School, College, and University. The positions are 9-month tenure-track appointments, and the salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in nursing or a closely related field by August 1, 2010, with at least one graduate degree in nursing; NP certification required for teaching in the DNP program
  • Minimum of one year clinical experience
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and learning as evidenced by a presentation during the campus visit with students present
  • Promise of productive scholarship consistent with the teacher-scholar model, including grant writing
  • Commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service that is consistent with the College’s priorities for the School and the mission of the University
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the School, College, and University
  • Technological literacy and a commitment to integrate technology in teaching and scholarship
  • Commitment to professional service within the University and beyond
  • Minimum of 4 years of college/university teaching experience at the assistant professor level or higher and a record of excellence in teaching, research/scholarship, and service required for appointment at the rank of associate professor
  • Minimum of 8 years teaching at the college/university level (5 of which are at the associate professor level) and a high level of scholarship for appointment at the rank of professor
  • ctive Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license by August 1, 2010
  • Commitment to recruiting, advising, retaining, and mentoring qualified students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice degree for appointment teaching in the DNP program
  • A minimum of one year college teaching experience for rank of Assistant Professor
  • Experience working with a diverse student body
  • Certification in a specialty area (including, but not limited to, maternal-child health nursing, adult health nursing, critical care nursing, family nurse practitioner, community health nursing)
  • Experience in online instruction and development

Twenty-five, full-time faculty serve students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs including pre-licensure, RN-BSN, RN-MSN, MSN (Family Nurse Practitioner, Community Health Clinical Nurse Specialist), and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. A new state-of-the-art School of Nursing Building houses the program and features technologically advanced faculty offices and scholarship areas, classrooms, computer and learning laboratories, and a community outreach nursing clinic. Nursing students practice in a wide array of institutional and community settings, including the School’s rural nurse managed clinics that provide primary prevention services to rural southeast Georgia citizens. Undergraduate students consistently achieve an NCLEX-RN pass rate over 92%. Graduate students consistently achieve a 100% pass rate on certification examinations. Since 2004, the graduate program has been ranked 11th in the nation by US News and World Report. The School is CCNE-accredited and received the University System of Georgia Board of Regents Award for Teaching Excellence. The School has an Endowed Chair in Rural Community Health Nursing and secures grant funding in excess of $800,000 annually.
