Seeks Candidates for Faculty Positions (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor)

Qualifications: Earned research doctorate in nursing or related field; master’s degree in nursing; specialization in one or more of the following areas preferred, but not limited to, nursing management/leadership, adult health/gerontologic nursing, community health nursing, mental health nursing, health policy. Teaching experience in a nursing baccalaureate program preferred. Community-based, interdisciplinary, and inter-institutional experience/background preferred. For rank of associate professor: teaching in baccalaureate and graduate program required; a record of publication and presentation in professional venues and evidence of research. For rank of full professor: teaching in baccalaureate and graduate program required; a record of substantive publication and presentation in professional venues and extensive evidence of research.

Responsibilities: Teach courses in undergraduate and/or graduate programs; assist with the implementation of the masters program in nursing; bring or secure external funding for research or special projects; demonstrate scholarly productivity through research and publications; contribute to the missions of the School, College and University; regional, national/international reputation in area of expertise; provide service appropriate to an academic appointment.

The University: Western Michigan University (WMU), located in Southwest Michigan, is a vibrant, nationally recognized student-centered research institution with an enrollment of nearly 25,000. WMU delivers high-quality undergraduate instruction, has a strong graduate division, and fosters significant research activities. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has placed WMU among the 76 public institutions in the nation designated as research universities with high research activities.

The College: The College of Health and Human Services is located in a new 195,000 square foot building with state-of-the-art teaching technologies and spacious research laboratories. The college enrolls over 2,200 students, with more than a third of those at the graduate level. In addition to the WMU Bronson School of Nursing, the college includes programs in blindness and low vision studies, occupational therapy, physician assistant, social work, speech pathology and audiology, holistic health care, alcohol and drug abuse, interdisciplinary health services, and interdisciplinary health studies. The college has received a number of grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and the Department of Education. The college also operates the Unified Clinics, a multidisciplinary service/training clinic.

The School: The WMU Bronson School of Nursing is committed to educating professional nurses who provide competent, relationship-based care, actively participate in the development and application of research, and assume leadership roles in evolving health care contexts. The school, which opened in 1994, offers a prelicensure track and a Registered Nurse (RN) track that lead to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Beginning in the fall 2006, the school opened a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree program that includes two tracks (nurse leader/manager and nurse educator). The total enrollment includes approximately 390 undergraduate students. In addition to the school’s director, the faculty consists of 22 full-time faculty members. The school was granted full approval by the Michigan Board of Nursing. The undergraduate program was recently re-accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education for 10 years and the masters program was accredited for an initial 5 years. The School is also one of few schools of nursing to receive endorsement from the American Holistic Nursing Certification Corporation.
