The primary purpose of the Executive Director of Nursing Practice is to provide strategic and operational leadership to the NFP nursing department. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the position is responsible for executive leadership and direction, coordination, and evaluation of nursing department activities; evaluating and improving program quality; implementing operational efficiencies; implementing program educational activities; and contributing to policy development, planning, decision-making and fiscal management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop strategic goals for Nursing Practice, in alignment with organizational strategic goals
- Develop and implement programs, systems and processes to achieve the goals of NFP.
- Understand social, economic and legal issues affecting health care systems and seek all opportunities for keeping staff up to date in health care practices.
- Establish standards for nursing practices and maintain authority, accountability and responsibility for nursing services
- Develop organizational programs, policies and procedures that describe how the NFP model is assessed, delivered and evaluated.
- Plan, promote and conduct organization-wide performance improvement activities
- Participate in regular and ongoing evaluation of existing programs to ensure they are current and quality standards are maintained; participate ongoing revision and improvement processes in collaboration with other departments.
- Provide oversight to the Education Manager in the development, design, delivery and evaluation of the NFP education program for nurse home visitors, supervisors, state nurse consultants and administrators, and the ongoing development and maintenance of the NFP Visit-to-Visit Guidelines
- Collaborate with other NFP departments and University of Colorado Prevention Research Center staff to provide excellence in competency-based curriculum development, education delivery, education assessment and evidence-based home visiting guidelines
- Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and provide collaborative support and cooperation to other NFP departments
- Represent NFP to external constituencies and partners
- Act as liaison between National NFP and Prevention Research Center on issues related to Program Guidelines and NFP educational curriculum
- Develop relationships with internal and external customers; effectively disseminate the mission, vision and goals of the organization; promote a positive organizational image; and clearly communicate organizational objectives to internal and external partners
- Develop and manage the nursing services budget and ensuring sufficient number of qualified staff to obtain organizational goals
- Manage costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities for savings
- Manage the nursing practice department and direct and supervise of all nursing practice functions and activities.

- Serve as the senior staff representative on the Nursing Committee of the Board of Trustees
- Create an environment and demonstrate a leadership style which motivates and encourages employees to achieve desired objectives as well as stimulating creativity and innovation when change is needed.
- Demonstrate personal and professional development at an executive level
- Translate strategic objectives of organization, establish goals, ensure a collaborative environment, build confidence, set priorities, possess technical know-how, and effectively manage performance
- Establish clear operating priorities to allow teams to make decisions and implement change and be accountable for outcomes; empower each person at their level of responsibility, delegate workload among team members to foster staff involvement
- Create a safe environment for teamwork; facilitate and encourage openness, support, and problem solving; promote trust and respect between team members, acknowledge and appreciate individual personal styles; build collaborative team relationships; and motivate staff to be solution-focused and strength-based
- Build collaborative strategic relationships across NFP teams to improve service delivery and overall organizational development

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
The ideal candidate for the Executive Director of Nursing Practice will possess the following qualifications:
- Current RN license to practice in the state of Colorado
- Master’s degree in nursing, business or health care administration required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in nursing/healthcare/hospital management experience required at the Director, Executive Director or VP level (or equivalent)
- Experience managing quality improvement processes
- Models effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication; this includes aligning information, promoting understanding, conflict resolution, negotiation, effective listening and public speaking
- Ability to inspire trust, organize people in a team, and motivate them to work collaboratively
- Ability to adapt in an evolving and changing business environment
- A proven track record of reaching innovative solutions to problems
- Experience in home visiting and working with low income families is desirable
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
- Scope of work includes travel nationwide
