The Sanford Center for Aging is a free-standing center devoted to aging-focused research, education, and community outreach. The Center is anticipated to become the central locus of these activities at the University of Nevada, Reno. A successful director will create a vibrant, self-sustaining, multidisciplinary center of excellence in aging. Significant support for this role includes a new 6,000 ft. sq. clinical education center, additional administrative and support space and a substantial endowment. The director will report to the vice president of the division of health sciences. The director will lead efforts to advance campus research and practice in strategies for successful aging across diverse academic units. The director will be responsible for recruiting staff and faculty affiliates and for the academic, clinical, and financial success of the Sanford Center. The director will also pursue and maintain a program of extramurally funded, peer-reviewed research as well as take a leadership role in philanthropic efforts on behalf of the Center.
Required qualifications include: a doctorate in medicine, nursing, or a social or behavioral science and a substantial record of research and scholarship in aging that merits tenure in the department of the director’s discipline, if awarded, on appointment. Preferred qualifications include: a history of accomplishment in programmatic research, success in obtaining and administering external research funding as a principal investigator, a documented record of sound administrative skills, and an interest in and ability to mentor and develop junior faculty members and graduate students.
