Director of EdD Nursing Education program

In the spirit of academic excellence, the School of Nursing (http://nursing.westga.edu/ ), is partnering with the Honors College to offer a Nurse Scholars program that will mentor academically talented pre-nursing and nursing students for undergraduate research, graduate education, and professional development to become nursing’s future scholars and leaders.

The School of Nursing: The UWG School of Nursing is internationally recognized for its development and implementation of Caring Groups, an experiential strategy for learning caring in nursing. Faculty members work closely with both undergraduate and graduate students to create a supportive learning environment. The faculty is committed to creating a milieu for learning that fosters “educational excellence in a caring environment” and initiated an innovative concept-based BSN curriculum in summer 2012. The School of Nursing offers BSN and RN-BSN/RN-MSN programs in Carrollton and Newnan and MSN and EdD programs 100% online. Master’s coursework specializes in Nursing Education or Health Systems Leadership with an option for the AACN Clinical Nurse Leader Role. The EdD in Nursing Education program admitted its first cohort of students in fall 2012 and is offered in collaboration with the College of Education. All BSN and MSN programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education through 2018. In fall 2013, the School of Nursing will occupy a new 64,000 square foot building with state-of-the-art technology to support simulation and team-based, problem-based learning for 21^st century nursing practice. The building also has space for a Center for Nursing Research.

 

 

“Educational Excellence in a Caring Environment”

The University of West Georgia is launching a national search for a Director of the newly established online EdD in Nursing Education program. The position is available on July 1, 2013. The program is a collaborative effort between the School of Nursing and the College of Education and enrolled its first class of 14 students in fall 2012.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The director will report directly to the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies in the SON and will be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a quality doctoral program; resource acquisition and management; facilitating faculty and student growth as scholars in nursing education; and creation of a culture of collaboration and engagement in a quality caring, student-centered environment. 

·         Master of Science in Nursing and a doctorate in nursing or relevant discipline and eligibility for RN licensure in Georgia

·         Doctoral teaching experience with experience directing dissertations preferred

·         Established research program

·         Online teaching experience

·         Experience with funded grants and grant writing preferred

·         Administrative and collaborative leadership experience

·         Exemplary interpersonal communication skills

·         At least 5 years’ experience in nursing education

·         Commitment to a diverse academic community
