The Health Sciences Center of Stony Brook University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, School of Nursing. The Dean is the chief academic officer of the School of Nursing that enrolls 800 students and offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and the Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees. Post Masters Certificate and Masters Completion options are available. The School also offers nurse practitioner/clinical nurse specialist programs in adult health, child health, psychiatric/mental health, family health, neonatal, and perinatal women’s health, and also in midwifery. This new Dean, building upon the School’s strong legacy in clinical education, will develop and implement a vision that will result in the School being viewed nationally as a leader in academic excellence. Reporting to the Vice President of Health Sciences, the new Dean will take a leadership role in further developing the relatively new Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and in guiding the School through the continued development of a Ph.D. program in Nursing.
The School of Nursing is part of the Stony Brook Health Sciences Center which also includes the 540-bed University Hospital, the School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, School of Social Welfare and the School of Health Technology and Management.
Required qualifications: candidate must hold an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution; have a minimum of five years experience in academic nursing and higher-education administration and a history of a successful program of funded research. Preferred qualifications include strong interpersonal and communication skills, involvement in an active research program, and experience in supervising or directing a doctoral program.
