The University of South Carolina Upstate invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Mary Black School of Nursing. Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Dean is the chief administrative officer and academic leader of the School. The School of Nursing is the largest single degree major at USC Upstate and one of the Southeast‘s most highly regarded nursing institutions that offers a four-year degree program. The school is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The School is the largest baccalaureate nursing program and the largest RN-BSN nursing program in South Carolina with a current enrollment of more than 525 nursing students and 42 full-time faculty.

The University of South Carolina Upstate is a comprehensive public university and senior institution of the University of South Carolina. Set on 300 acres in Spartanburg, S.C. at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, USC Upstate serves the needs of surrounding cities and their connecting corridors and populations. The University, with an enrollment of over 5,000 students, offers bachelor’s degree programs in nursing, liberal arts and sciences, business administration and teacher education.

The successful candidate must have a Masters’ in nursing, an earned doctorate from an accredited institution in nursing or a related field, be eligible for licensure in South Carolina, and have a record of teaching excellence and sustained scholarly activity in order to receive tenure status at the level of professor at USC Upstate. Preference will be given to candidates who have a minimum of five years administrative experience in higher education in nursing. Candidates with strong communications skills, demonstrated ability to attract external funding, expertise in budget management, a commitment to diversity and experience developing graduate programs in nursing will be given special consideration.
