Hours per week: Full-Time

Objective: To coordinate, support, and enhance existing and developing Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE)/Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) programs in Iowa. To improve health care responses to sexual assault. To further alliances with appropriate law enforcement, non-profit and state agencies to promote consistent, professional and victim centered investigation, medical and forensic response and treatment for sexual assault victims. To help develop effective policies, in conjunction with allied organizations.

Job Responsibilities:
Work with the allied organizations, to improve and expand Iowa’s SANE and SART programs, assisting in the development of SANE and SART programs Provide support to any emerging SANE and SART programs Work collaboratively with IowaCASA’s Rural SART program and Coordinator, and other IowaCASA staff to coordinate technical assistance and training Coordinate and implement, in conjunction with partners, forensic evidence collection training for law enforcement and prosecutors, at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, and in community-based trainings statewide Work with the Iowa Department of Public Health, and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office to ensure that the sexual assault protocol and evidence collection kits are updated and revised as necessary Provide training to professionals and advocates on the healthcare (medical and dental care) response to sexual violence Provide technical assistance to victim services, law enforcement, health care, and prosecution agencies on proper responses to sexual and domestic violence victims and forensic exams Provide technical assistance to SARTs, in collaboration with the Rural SART program Support and coordinate community education, public outreach, media and legislative support when appropriate to SANE issues Actively support philosophical goals and initiatives of IowaCASA Meet stated goals and objectives of position Provide timely, thorough, and accurate progress reports, including detailed tracking of activities Participate in internal staff meetings, trainings, and workgroups as assigned Participate in other activities as requested

Skill Requirements: Must have strong organizational, collaborative, and management skills. Program development experience required. An understanding of sexual violence issues, victim advocacy and the criminal justice system and familiarity with SANE and SART Programs preferred. Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience in public speaking, adult instruction and coordinated community response preferred. Requires ability to travel statewide. IowaCASA Sexual Abuse Counselor Certification or willingness to complete certification within a year.

Educational Concentration: SANE with at least one year’s experience. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health or related field. Masters Degree preferred. 3-5 years of direct patient care in women’s health, emergency services, or related field. Prior sexual assault examination experience required.

Other requirements: Requires extensive statewide and occasional national travel. Proof of valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and auto insurance required; or ability to use alternate transportation.

Position Reports To: Community Operations Coordinator
