CHAIRPERSON, DEPARTMENT OF NURSING
Towson University is seeking a Nursing Chairperson who will provide dynamic, collaborative, and visionary leadership for the Department: The individual who will fulfill this role:

• is an excellent communicator who provides collegial leadership
• participates actively in professional and community organizations
• engages in a range of scholarly activities
• has excellent skills in facilitating the teaching-learning process
Responsibilities: The Chairperson will provide exceptional leadership to meet the diverse needs of this large, progressive department with its strong commitment to excellence in nursing education and its key contributions to the University’s role as Maryland’s Metropolitan University and as a growth institution within the University System of Maryland. The chairperson will have key roles in management, teaching, scholarship, and service activities. This is a 12-month faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, with a start date of Summer 2010. Salary and rank commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Required qualifications:
• An earned doctoral degree in nursing or a related field, a Master of Science degree in nursing, and eligibility for licensure as a nurse in Maryland
• A substantial record of successful teaching, scholarship, and service that places the candidate at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, eligible for tenure
• Academic experience with undergraduate nursing education
• Administrative experience in nursing education
• A track record of external funding (grants/contracts)
• Evidence of exceptional interpersonal skills and commitment to diversity
• Evidence of commitment to engage in the profession of nursing
• Evidence of a strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and addressing community needs
• Experience with both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs
Preference will be given to candidates with qualifications in one or more of the following areas:
• Experience with administration of both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs
• Academic experience with nursing graduate education
• Evidence of developing and sustaining successful off-campus partnerships
• Experience with effective planned growth of Nursing programs, including alternative program formats
The Department of Nursing: The department currently has 30 full-time faculty, 325 undergraduate majors and 125 graduate students with locations both at Towson and Hagerstown, MD. The Department has a strong collaborative relationship with the Community College of Baltimore County for an innovative Associate-to-Masters program. The faculty has obtained over $4M in recent grant funding and other state funding to increase enrollments in both undergraduate and graduate programs to meet critical nursing workforce needs.
