Associate/Full Professor (with Tenure)

The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) Nursing Department invites applicants for full-time position in the growing and expanding CCNE-accredited baccalaureate and master's nursing programs to start Fall 2013. UTPA is located in the agriculturally rich semitropical Rio Grande Valley, 20 miles from Mexico and 70 miles from the sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. UTPA is 2nd in the nation for the number of bachelor's degrees and 4thfor the number of master's degrees awarded to Hispanics. This fast growing, multicultural region offers unique opportunities for research and practice.
This position requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas prior to assuming the position. Additional requirements are listed with each rank below. Duties include teaching students in classrooms, simulated laboratories, and clinical settings. Additional efforts in professional achievement and professional service are expected, and experience working with ethnically diverse populations is advantageous. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications and contingent upon funding availability.
Associate Professor or Professor ( with Tenure)
Required qualification: doctorate in nursing or related field. Preferred qualifications include a doctorate in nursing, at least 2 years of clinical experience, previous teaching experience at the baccalaureate and/or graduate level(s), and evidence of the following for each rank:
 

Associate Professor: professional achievement (scholarship, research, creative activity).
 

Professor: outstanding professional achievement (scholarship, research, creative activity).
This position may qualify for an endowment. Endowment qualifications: As per UTPA’s policy, “the holder of an endowed professorship will normally be a tenured faculty member with the rank of Professor who has had a distinguished career.” Nominees must demonstrate strong evidence of substantive professional achievement (scholarship, research, creative activity) and leadership. This endowed position requires experience in nursing program development to enhance nursing students and/or faculty.
