PRIORITY FILING DEADLINE: Thursday, February 13, 2014(initial screening date - open until filled)GENERAL DESCRIPTIONSanta Rosa Junior College is seeking an individual with demonstrated instructional and clinical skills to join an outstanding team of faculty, staff and instructional administrators to provide high quality services to our district, our community, and most importantly to our students. This is a full-time regular contract faculty position in the Health Sciences Department, beginning Fall 2014. Appointment is contingent upon funding and Board approval.PROGRAM AND DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONThe ADN Program at Santa Rosa Junior College prepares students for entry into the practice of professional registered nursing and has a long history of producing highly qualified nurses with comprehensive nursing skills. There are 9 full-time faculty and numerous adjunct faculty in the program with excellent teaching and clinical skills. Our facilities in the Race Building include classrooms with state-of-the-art computer and presentation equipment, a computer laboratory and Learning Resource Center, and human simulation laboratories. Clinical experiences take place in a variety of facilities and agencies throughout the county. The Associate Degree Nursing Program of Santa Rosa Junior College is a well-established and respected nursing program in Northern California. The program attracts excellent students and has outstanding graduates. The faculty are knowledgeable clinicians with a dedication to teaching. The nursing program is valued by the college and the community as a resource for educating exceptional nurses. QUALIFICATIONSRequired:• Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university; OR the equivalent.• Current active and clear license or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.• A minimum of one year full-time Medical-Surgical work experience in an acute care hospital within the last five years providing direct patient care. Work experience may include teaching in an approved professional nursing program. • One year of experience teaching courses related to nursing or completion of a course which includes practice teaching in a professional nursing program.• Meet BRN (Board of Registered Nursing) requirements to teach Medical-Surgical nursing in addition to any other approved clinical area.Proof of current American Heart Association BLS certification for the healthcare provider.• Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.If you do not possess the minimum qualifications exactly as stated above, you must file for equivalency. If claiming equivalency, applicants are responsible for documenting all course work, degree programs and related professional experience at the time of initial application. Preferred:• Previous teaching experience in a pre-licensure nursing program.• Willingness to participate in a team teaching approach.• College level education in principles of nursing education and/or adult learning.• Previous experience using high fidelity simulation in nursing education.
POSITION DESCRIPTIONThe assignments will be in medical-surgical nursing and any other clinical area for which the instructor is qualified. Instruction is in the first and second year. Assignments will include classroom theory, clinical instruction, simulation lab, and skills lab. Clinical teaching assignments may be on the day or evening shift. Assignments during the preceptorship include weekend, evening and on-call responsibilities. Duties include, but are not limited to: coordination of medical-surgical course assignments and clinical sites; participation in the planning, implementation and evaluation of an integrated nursing curriculum; demonstration of current knowledge of trends and issues in nursing education and medical surgical nursing; an ability to work collaboratively in teaching teams to accomplish program goals with students; an ability to work with diverse student populations; demonstration of innovation and creativity in creating learning experiences for students; involvement with professional or community organizations that relate to health care; ability to counsel, mentor and facilitate students during their learning experiences in the nursing program; ability to use a variety of teaching strategies in the classroom and clinical in support of the students’ learning outcomes.The instructors will assume responsibility for maintaining currency in the field and for updating existing courses and developing new curricula (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or online courses); assisting in the implementation and assessment of student learning outcomes; fully participating in department activities and other college service such as committee work; and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college.COMPENSATION PACKAGE• Starting Salary Range: $57,389 - $80,918 per year (2013/14 Faculty Salary Schedule). Teaching experience, other related professional experience, and academic degrees determine salary placement on a schedule that is competitive with other California Community Colleges.• Benefits: The District offers a competitive health and benefit package for employees and eligible dependents. • Leave/Holiday time: Full-time faculty members earn one day of sick leave for each month worked.• Housing: A mortgage loan at reduced fees may be available to the candidate selected for this position (contact Human Resources for more information).

Human Resources is located on the Santa Rosa campus in the Button Building at 1988 Armory Drive at the back of campus parallel to Highway 101. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. For the months of June and July, hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
