Description:Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking one (1) full-time tenure track Associate Degree Nursing Instructor commencing with the 2014 fall semester. The primary teaching assignment involves a variety of courses in the field of the Registered Nursing Department but may include courses in the Vocational Nursing Department. The position requires clinical and classroom skills teaching fundamentals, medical-surgical, gerontology, and mental health nursing. Teaching, supervision, evaluating student performance, curriculum planning and development are integral responsibilities of this position. Requires working effectively with students, faculty, and health care personnel in the planning and implementation of the program. This assignment also includes curriculum and program development, participation in department, division, college committees, and participatory governance activities assuming leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole; collaboration across disciplines and the leveraging of student support resources; and participation in ongoing professional development.
The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Pacific Coast campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Minimum Qualifications:• Master’s degree in nursing, OR Bachelor’s in nursing AND Master’s in health education or health science OR meet equivalent qualifications established by the District, OR meet the minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher, AND• Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understand of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications:• Experience in adult medical-surgical nursing, mental health nursing, and gerontology.• Three years of full-time employment as a Registered Nurse.• Hold a California Registered Nurse License.• Clinical nursing teaching experience, or nursing education within the past two years.• Meet faculty qualifications set forth by the Board of Registered Nursing.• Nursing experience in more than one clinical area.• Ability to teach at the first levels of the nursing career ladder.• Educational and/or instructional preparation in a registered nursing program.• Recent experience teaching registered nursing courses at the post-secondary level especially community college.• Evidence of student success in teaching a registered nursing program.• Evidence of participation in student success initiatives in post-secondary setting.• Evidence of an ability to address the instructional needs of a diverse and frequently underprepared student population.• Evidence of the ability to effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.• Evidence of an ability to adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge level (developmental through transfer) and personality of each individual and class.• Evidence of an ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidenced-based assessment of student learning.• Evidence of innovation, scholarship, or leadership in the teaching of nursing.• Desire and demonstrated ability to participate actively in department, division, and college committees and in the shared governance of Long Beach City College.• Desire and evidence of an ability to take on leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole.• Commitment to the Mission and Strategic Objectives of Long Beach Community College District. • Ability to work with computers, and use the Internet and interactive technologies to engage students in on-campus and online courses (where academically appropriate); and intrinsic motivation and ability to develop and teach online courses.• Evidence of an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTSalary range of $50,555 - $78,574 is commensurate with academic preparation and experience. The District provides medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee.

SELECTION PROCEDURE 1. Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.2.
