The School of Nursing at the University of California, San Francisco, is a first-tier research institution that offers master’s and doctoral education in nursing and sociology. Position Responsibilities:
The Associate Dean for Research will provide coordinated executive leadership for research at the UCSF School of Nursing. The position will report directly to the Dean, will be a member of the participatory management team for the School, and is expected to have responsibility for the following major areas:
* School-wide research policy, planning, initiatives, and coordination, to further research funding growth
* Research mentorship of faculty, including responsibility for needs assessment and training
* School-wide assurance of scientific integrity training and management of conflict of interest
* Review of extramural grant proposals with attention to research subject protection and other risk management review
* Allocation of school-wide research space and laboratories
* Peer review and allocation of school-wide intramural grant awards in consultation with the faculty Research Committee
* Liaison between the School and UCSF Vice Chancellor for Research and the Office of Research Administration
* Representation of the School to external funding agencies
* Promotion of international and cooperative research arrangements with public and private agencies
In pursuing those responsibilities, the Associate Dean of Research will work collaboratively with the faculty, Dean, and other administrative leaders in the school.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have the academic credentials to qualify for a tenured appointment at UCSF; i.e., an earned doctoral degree and independent program of research in nursing or related field, nationally and internationally recognized professional competence, and excellence in teaching at the graduate level. They must be cognizant of State and Federal regulations and compliance requirements on animal, human and biological safety; conflict of interest, scientific ethics, patent, and other intellectual property matters. Candidates should be scientists who currently have a focused research program of study in nursing or related field and have a distinguished personal record of funded research and peer reviewed publications. They should have a good understanding of federal and foundation funding opportunities. Candidates should have demonstrated leadership and experience in research and academic administration.
