Description
Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Nursing, the Associate Dean for Graduate Nursing Programs is responsible for the coordination and development of two graduate nursing programs. The Associate Dean will prepare reports for administration and external regulatory agencies and serve as liaison to College departments and on committees that provide student services, as well as share responsibility for recruitment and publications. The Associate Dean will assist with continuous program review and the regulatory body accreditation process.
Examples of Work
- Assists with the creation process of program policies and monitors the approval process.
- Attends departmental meetings appropriate to the provision of academic services for students in the School of Nursing.
- Participates in School of Nursing staff and School of Nursing Committee and Subcommittee meetings and activities.
- Designs, implements and participates in recruitment activities for the School of Nursing.
- Monitors College website, publications and program materials to insure information about the School of Nursing is clear, current, accurate and appropriately distributed.
- Oversees ongoing program development, administration and evaluation of specific graduate programs.
- Collects and provides data to the Dean, assists in the preparation of reports for the School of Nursing.
- Provides guidance in the development of honors and other student recognition programs.
- Participates in staff development and appropriate professional activities to maintain currency in issues related to curriculum, adult learning and professional nursing.
- Participates in the NLNAC and CCNE accreditation processes.
- Approves practicum agencies, oversees student compliance with state and local regulations, and maintains agreements with agencies.
- Consults with students on appropriate selection and requirements for clinical practicum sites, completion of practicum packets, synthesis papers and e-portfolio.
- Approves student selection of preceptors for practicum sites.
- Verifies student compliance with state and local insurance and health regulations for clinical practicum sites.
- Verifies criminal background checks completed and clears students for enrollment in practicum.
- Participates in ongoing and new program development for MSN curriculum.
- Surveys professional and educational organizations for changes in standards related to practice and education.
- Collaborates with administrators, mentors, and curriculum subcommittee on integration of professional standards in the curriculum.
- Oversees course administration, preparation, and monitoring of course quality each term.
- Assures internal consistency of curriculum and courses of specific graduate programs.
- Maintains schedule for course revisions.
- Monitors course evaluations each term for compliance with SPE.
- Devises remediation plan for courses not meeting SPE standards.
- Reviews transfer courses for specific MSN programs in conjunction with curriculum subcommittee chair.
- Serves as resource to mentors for curriculum issues and course revision related to specific graduate programs.
- Coordinates grading of synthesis paper and e-portfolio.
- Collects and provides quality, course, and curriculum data to the Dean, assists in the preparation of reports for the School of Nursing and College.
- Participates in staff development and appropriate professional activities to maintain currency in issues related to curriculum, adult learning, and professional nursing.
- Collaborates with other School of Nursing staff in preparing presentations and/or publications.
- Designs, implements, and participates in recruitment activities for the School of Nursing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Familiarity with philosophy and practices of higher education.
- Demonstrated expertise with concepts of distance learning and online education.
- Knowledge of standards, curriculum and policies pertaining to programs of professional nursing.
- Knowledge of current issues and trends in professional nursing and adult learning.
- Ability to work with professional and support staff, others in the profession and members of the community.
- Ability to work at a distance with students and professionals associated with the program.
- Ability to use technology to communicate, locate and record information and prepare reports.
- Knowledge of the nursing accreditation process.
Requirements
Doctorate in Nursing or related field; Master of Science in Nursing required. RN licensure in New Jersey required. A minimum of 1 to 3 years experience in educational leadership or administrative position. Minimum of three years teaching experience in a graduate nursing program or equivalency as determined by appointing authority.
Experience in computer based distance education. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Systems. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Board Certified in a nursing specialty; Informatics preferred.
