Xavier University, a catholic university in the Jesuit tradition, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing beginning Fall, 2010. The responsibilities of the position included teaching didactic content across undergraduate baccalaureate and/or graduate master’s degree programs, conducting scholarly activities and providing school, university and community services.

The Xavier University School of Nursing has established itself as one of the premier nursing programs in the country. Xavier leads the way with an innovative, ground-breaking approach to nursing education. Xavier’s nursing programs have grown in national reputation for excellence in preparing nurses at both the undergraduate (BSN) and graduate (MSN) levels who function holistically in roles that directly impact the health care needs of our nation. Xavier’s nursing programs are one of just 16 nationally endorsed by the American Holistic Nurse’s Certification Corporation (AHNCC). In addition, many MSN graduates are prepared to fill a new role in healthcare, Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL). The CNL is a master’s prepared advanced generalist able to design, implement, manage and evaluate client care within complex health systems.

Xavier’s state-of-the-art clinical simulation laboratory supplements the student’s clinical experiences by providing a futuristic simulated learning environment. Using human patient simulators, students have the opportunity to practice critical thinking and develop problem solving skills by participating in challenging simulation scenarios. This creative, high-tech approach to teaching patient care enhances student learning and builds self-confidence by creating meaningful clinical experiences in an exciting and realistic setting. This creative use of technology has grown to include high definition video conferencing with rural hospitals. Thanks to multi-million dollar grants, Xavier’s School of Nursing is able to offer Master’s level coursework to nurses who would not otherwise be able to receive cutting edge training such as the CNL.

Minimum qualifications for the position are: doctorate (ABD considered), eligibility for Ohio and Kentucky licensure, clinical expertise and teaching experience.
