THE POSITION: This is a full-time, tenure-track, 10-month-per-year position scheduled to begin August 21, 2009.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for providing theory and clinical instruction for all levels of medical-surgical nursing and geriatrics nursing; supervise, counsel, and evaluate students; prepare course outlines, assignments, and examinations.
Participate fully as a member on Nursing Education Department committees, departmental activities, and College governance.
Hold regular office hours and participate in recruitment, community outreach, and retention of students.
Act as a liaison between the College, the students, and the agencies utilized for clinical experience.
Teach assigned courses in a manner consistent with the department’s standards and with the content cited in the approved curriculum guides; follow the instructional policies as outlined by both the College and in the Nursing Education Department Faculty Manual.
Assist in the coordination of instruction among part-time faculty.
Remain current in the subject matter areas and in the techniques of effective instruction through recent clinical experience and professional development.
Maintain current California registered nursing licensure and CPR certification.
Comply with clinical requirements for immunizations and orientations determined appropriate by clinical agencies.
Teaching assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes at the San Marcos campus and/or off-campus locations as part of contract responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must meet all of the following qualifications under a) through e) below:
Master’s in nursing.
Current license or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
One year continuous experience in the practice of professional nursing.
Provided direct patient care as an RN within the last three years in both Medical-Surgical Nursing and Geriatric Nursing.
Eligible for approval as an instructor by the California State Board of Nursing.
Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least one year of teaching experience in medical-surgical nursing and geriatric nursing in any health care setting or school of registered nursing within the last three years.
Current nursing skills in acute care nursing and geriatric nursing.
Experience or coursework in curriculum development.
Active participation in the field of nursing through involvement in nursing research, community activity, and/or professional organizations.
Willingness to learn and ability to use innovative educational strategies, modern technology, and computer-based technologies.
An active interest in improving the teaching of nursing and maintaining a strong instructional program.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching (i.e. enthusiasm, knowledge of subject matter, and student motivational skills).
Awareness of diverse teaching methods and learning styles, particularly as applied to the learning of nursing.
Commitment to the development of a learning-centered college; able to facilitate the learning process and inspire, motivate, and enable students to succeed.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Starting Salary Range: $52,114.69 – $81,530.99 annually. An annual stipend of $1,274.18 shall be awarded to any faculty member that possesses an earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution.

Employee benefits for full-time employees include medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents; and life, disability, and long-term care insurance. The estimated value of these fully employer-paid benefits is approximately $19,300 annually. All full-time, tenure-track faculty are enrolled in STRS (State Teachers Retirement System).
