Job Summary: The faculty member hired into this position will model the provision of comprehensive mental health care as a faculty member in a clinical practice setting; demonstrate and facilitate the attainment of psychiatric advanced practice nursing skills in health promotion for graduate students, identify and treat disease; provide and manage pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies; and use the process of assessment, diagnosis, management, and evaluation to provide evidenced-based care to address the psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients. The position requires a considerable degree of independent skills and judgment necessary to monitor and respond to changes in patients’ condition and integrates direct patient care with the faculty roles of teaching, scholarship, and service to the community and the profession. Uses critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision-making to help patients across the lifespan achieve, maintain, and restore health. Works independently of or collaboratively with other team members, and refers patients to other team members to meet the needs of each patient. Position works in an outpatient (clinic) healthcare environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases. Engagement in clinical education is an expectation of the position.
Criteria for the position include: graduation from an accredited College or School of Nursing as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree preferred – Master’s Degree accepted, certification by AACN as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, Utah State Licensure and prescriptive authority (or qualification for such is acceptable). Excellent clinical skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with patients and other members of the health care and academic team are essential. Clinical precepting / teaching experience desired.
