BACKGROUND:
American University of Health Sciences (AUHS) is a Private-For Profit, Minority Serving, and Christian Based Degree Granting University and has an opportunity for an Assistant Dean for the School of Nursing. The goal of AUHS is to develop learned Bachelor of Science Degree Nurse Professionals who are committed to excellence in care, holistic centered, evidence based practice driven who believe in diversity in nursing research.
As the First Minority Owned, Minority Serving, Pre-Licensure, Bachelor of Science Nursing School in the history of California, AUHS is positioned for exciting growth and an opportunity to bring about real, effective development in addressing health care disparity and the promotion of minority participation to become future nurse and pharmacy scientists.
This position provides an augmentation of leadership and supervision for the Nursing Program and serves as the Assistant Director for the Nursing Program. AUHS is located 20 miles south of Los Angeles and is the City of Signal Hill’s first university. Our Nursing Program was commenced in 2007 and the
first graduates walked June 2009. 100% pass rate.
REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications include preferably a Doctorate Degree in Nursing or related field but no less than a Master’s degree in nursing, from a NLN/CCNE nursing accredited college or university. Must have at least one years’ experience, within the last of 5 years, with some administrative or management experience in academic divisions, sections or schools within a community college and/or four year college or university, with emphasis on nursing, health sciences.
At least two years’ successful classroom teaching experience in a pre- or post-licensure nursing program. At least one-year experience as a registered nurse providing direct
patient care.
Applicants must possess or be eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in California. Pre-licensure Associate and Baccalaureate teaching experience are preferred.
Should be a specialist, experienced clinical nurse in one or more of the following:
Critical Care Expertise
Pediatric Expertise
Public/Community Health Expertise
Medical/Surgical Expertise
Women’s Health Expertise
Geriatric … and other nurse specialists.
Assistant Dean must have a full appreciation or the ability to comprehend and implement Systematic Evaluation Plans, Institutional Effectiveness plans that speak to the ongoing quality and enhancement of the School of Nursing.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Full reporting to the Dean of the SoN, the Assistant Dean of SoN is responsible for helping to plan, organize, supervise and ensuring near term and long term success of the School of Nursing (SoN). Will help direct and evaluate the instructional programs assigned to the school.

• Understanding of current and emerging instructional delivery technologies
• Desire to develop a nursing science mindset within students
• Ability to design curriculum and learning activities to address a wide range of learning
levels and learning styles
• Understanding of current and emerging instructional delivery technologies
• Committed to building a unique university setting of spiritually centered, science
focused, nursing evidence based practice care
COMPENSATION:
$90,000.00 to $135,000.00 per year based upon prior faculty and SoN administrative
experience
