DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Leadership/Management/Administration. The Assistant Dean for Nursing will assist the Dean for the School of Social Science and Human Services with emphasis in the Nursing Program in the: (1) Exercise of department leadership in program development and maintenance. (2) Development of recommendations regarding faculty retention, promotion, and tenure. (3) Development and operation of search committees and hiring recommendations. (4) Supervision of support staff that provides that duties correspond to job descriptions. (5) Development of employee evaluations in accordance with college policies, procedures and bargaining unit agreements. (6) Organization, development, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of instructional programs. (7) Encouragement and initiation of the process of grant development. (8) Development of class schedules, office hours, and student advising schedules which reflect a student-centered environment. (9) Maintenance of efficient management of the School of Social Science and Human Services. (10) Encouragement of innovation in the application of instructional technology and the development of distance learning expertise on the part of both the adjunct and full time faculty. (11) Development of the annual budget and planning documents. (12) Assist with student recruitment. (13) Perform other assignments as requested by the Dean for the School of Social Science and Human Services (M.E.). B. Public Relations/Communications. The Assistant Dean for Nursing will assist the Dean for the School of Social Science and Human Services with emphasis in the Nursing Program in the: (1) Use of effective communication within the school, with other areas of the college and with the community. (2) Use of effective communication with and among department faculty and staff. (3) Activities of any advisory committees and other outside contacts that promote the college and department mission and goals. (4) Development, promotion and implementation of articulation agreements with other colleges and universities through the appropriate college departments. (5) Representation of the College and School at off-campus meetings. C. Professional Development. The Assistant Dean for Nursing will assist the Dean for the School of Social Science and Human Services with emphasis in the Nursing Program in the: (1) Development and maintenance of appropriate interactions and meetings to assist faculty members as they proceed through the tenure process. (2) Initiation and implementation of personal, faculty, and support staff professional development plans and activities. (3) Development and maintenance of appropriate interactions with individual faculty and support staff to evaluate and improve performance.

The Assistant Dean for Nursing will develop a personal professional development plan with the Dean for the School of Social Science and Human Services.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master's degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution related to the department curriculum. Three years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Preferred: Doctorate degree. Teaching experience on the community college level.
