ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONER DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA SCHOOL OF MEDICINE RENO, NV
The University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM) is currently seeking an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Working with a collaborating physician, the Advanced Nurse Practitioner cares for an assigned panel of adult patients with neuropsychiatric disorders in an outpatient clinic, via telemedicine, or both. With backup, the individual evaluates patients, devises a treatment plan, and implements it, referring patients with very complex neuropsychiatric and medical problems to clinic physicians or referring patients for psychotherapy as indicated. The position reports to the Chair, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM). As part of an evaluation of new patients, the APN will obtain a history and perform a mental status examination as well as appropriate physical examination and laboratory assessment. In follow-up, the APN provides medication management, counseling, and appropriate referral for other clinical services and completes documentation, including medical notes and billing documents as needed. The APN will review cases with collaborating physician; acts as liaison with other clinicians as indicated for patients’ well-being, provide court testimony and complete documents for emergency and involuntary admission as needed, assists with research projects as appropriate, including liaison for subject recruitment and attend clinic meetings.
