Inspiration

Hello all,

I'm a new graduate working in an ICU unit at a level 1 trauma center and I have not been enjoying my ICU experience. I am inspired by all your post because I haven't taken the time to realize how very hard it is to obtain an ICU position these days. After speaking with Wallena this evening, she help me to realize that working in the ICU is a critical part of the journey to becoming a CRNA & for those of us who hate the rigors of the ICU we must focus on mastering the task at hand becuase it is only for a season. For those of you who are presently in nursing school, my suggestion is for you to try and gain employment on an ICU unit as a "Clinical Nurse Extern". This is what I did so that I wouldnt run into the problem of being told I needed one year experience before being hired in the ICU. For those of you who have already graduated, be encouraged becase there are some ICU's that do hire without having previous ICU experience.

What is it that you dislike

What is it that you dislike about working the ICU? I am a junior in the nursing program at La Salle University and i am already looking for ICU or Critical care externships for myself now so that when i graduate next year i may not have such a hard time getting a job in critical care. I look forward to it. What do you dislike?
