Help! I am becoming discouraged
Hi, I have recently started taking prerequisites for Nursing school. I am making a major career change. I have worked in the IT field now for over 12 years and have decided that I want to give more of myself to others. Can anyone tell me what they did to transition from "working" to "not working" to get through nursing school? I am told that it will be hard to work while completing the program if I want to make awesome grades.
Is there a grant or any type of program available for folks like me that are non-traditional students and who's families depend on them to take care of them? I have found lots of scholarships but most are for current nursing students. because I work and have a family I am only able to take one science class at a time and the plan I have created puts me at entering nursing school in 2 years (I will be 38 years old). I'm ok with this pace but I would love to be able to move forward head on taking a full load every semester so that I can get to nursing school sooner.
any advice/guidance is greatly appreciated!

If you are worried about
Tue, 01/25/2011 - 2:48pm — Melbs003If you are worried about transitioning from work to class, I think that you should be able to manage being enrolled in one class at a time. However, if you plan on taking on more at a time, with work and a family, that might become stressful and take away from any of the free time you have remaining outside of work/class. If you are content with this two-year plan, I would consider the pros and cons of speeding up that pace and how it will effect other aspects of your life.
Best of luck!
