Position Purpose: Provides health care services for the male inmates of the medium security prison in Springfield. Duties include:
- provides on-site medical treatments as needed and making appropriate referrals;
- provides patient care according to the individual’s treatment plan;
- monitors patient’s response to prescribed medications and treatments;
- explains prescribed medications and treatments to patients and staff;
- records and charts appropriate medical data;
completes reports and forms;
- communicates, reports, and follows orders given by physician.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- professional nursing theory and practices;
- recent developments in the field of professional nursing;
- clinical procedures.
Ability to:
- deal effectively with both patients and staff;
keep records and charts;
- communicate information clearly and concisely;
operate a variety of medical equipment;
- make reports and observations;
- apply general nursing techniques and practices;
manage day to day activities of a clinic;
- deal effectively with patients and staff;
- lift up to 35 pounds or more.
Licenses and Certification: Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of South Dakota. LPN’s also considered.
Comments: An extensive criminal background check and drug screening will be conducted for the successful applicant for the position. This position is exempt from the Career Service Act.
