Gaining Critical Care Experience
Hi, my name is Lanair. I want to enter a CRNA program in the future. I have 8 years nursing experience. One year in High Risk Labor & Delivery and the rest as a Psychiatric RN, with one year supervisory experience. I will be completing my BSN in November 2009. I have applied for 4 positions where I currently work, but no one will hire me. New grads have a better chance than I do. I have spoken to the Nurse Manager on CCU, where I applied and she has not responded back yet. She said there is a waiting list of 4 people and she would check to see if I was one of the 4. I have talked to an ICU nurse and she said I should apply for a position in the Chest Pain obs unit. I am considering taking a Critical Care course at Indiana University. They offer an online and clinical preceptor site course. I talked to the CCU Nurse Manager of possible being my preceptor site. I plan to contact her again tomorrow to follow-up. Does anyone have other suggestions about how to make myself a better candidate for a Critical Care position? I'm very determined to get into this program.
