The Application Process
Who's eligible
(Please read carefully. Applications that do not meet
the eligibility criteria will be disqualified).
To apply for this scholarship, students must meet
all four of the following criteria:
- Be a member of a racial or ethnic minority group
- Be enrolled (as of January 2005) in the third or fourth
year of an accredited BSN program in the U.S. OR an accelerated
program leading to a BSN degree (such as RN-to-BSN or BA-to-BSN)
OR an accredited master's entry program in nursing (such as
RN-to-MSN, BS-to-MSN)
- Have a 3.0 GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale)
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
How to Apply
(Please read carefully. Applications that do not include the
required documentation will be disqualified.)
Complete and return this form along with all five
of the following documents:
- Transcript or other proof of GPA
- Letter of recommendation from a faculty member (outlining
academic achievement)
- Letter from a financial aid officer (stating estimated 2004-05
cost of attendance, financial aid received, and actual dollar
amount of unmet financial need)
- Letter of recommendation from an officer of a community
service organization (outlining volunteer or other work)
- A brief (250 word) written statement summarizing your academic
and personal acomplishments, community service and goals for
your future nursing career.
Note to Faculty: Nursing faculty members may nominate
students and complete the form, provided that all required documentation
is included with the application.
Minority Nurse will award two $1,000 scholarships
and two $500 scholarships in 2004. Selections will be made by
the editor of the magazine and its editorial advisory board. Scholarships
will be paid in January 2005.
