Part-Time FacultyWalden UniversityWalden University is a pioneer in student-centered distance education. GENERAL SUMMARY: The School of Nursing seeks faculty members with a strong background in Nursing Education, Leadership and Management, or Informatics. These are Part-Time Faculty positions that report to the Associate Dean of Nursing. The part-time nursing faculty member will also work with other part-time and full time faculty as well as administrators in the College. Faculty Members educate Walden University Students by effectively and proficiently using online technology and resources so that knowledge, information, feedback, and critique are imparted to and shared with Students in thoughtful, carefully formulated, well written, and timely communications. This is accomplished in an environment that is respectful of Students, the Faculty Member, Walden University, and the discipline in which the Faculty Member is involved. Faculty Members are expected to adhere to all Walden University Faculty expectations, which are clearly set forth to the Faculty Member at the start of his/her employment with the University. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibility is to teach Nursing core and specialization courses. Faculty members are encouraged to engage in thesis and / or dissertation committee work in areas consistent with their expertise. Training All new Faculty Members receive specific training from Walden University in the techniques of teaching online, use of eCollege, specifics with regard to the School or College in which they are going to teach, socialization into the Walden University culture, Integrity (www.turnitin.com), and theses and dissertations. Course Teaching Faculty Members are assigned a course, which is taught using the eCollege platform, and are responsible for interacting with students within this platform. Discussion Boards for classrooms are open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Postings can be made at any time but Faculty Members are expected to be in the classroom 3-4 days per week and to hold a minimum of two (2) office hours per week. Although postings to the classroom may be done at any time of day, they must be completed in a timely manner in accordance with the Faculty Handbook or other criteria established by Walden University. Faculty Members are required to verify the accuracy of student postings and submissions and to provide feedback and grades to students through eCollege. Residencies/ Knowledge Area Module (KAM) Full time Faculty Members are required to attend Residencies (Part-time faculty may, but are not required to attend), where they teach intensives and colloquia, and facilitate school and university-wide discussions. Faculty Members are also expected to participate in KAM instruction, in which they work one-on-one with Students in the development of the Learning Agreement and the KAM demonstration. Faculty Members are responsible for the provision of timely feedback, approval, assessment, and evaluation of each Student's work. Supervision, Leadership, University Contributions Faculty Members are also frequently asked to chair and/or participate on thesis/dissertation committees. Some Faculty Members are also involved in supervising practica and internships. The Faculty Member may be asked to serve on faculty governance or academic policy committees, and, in general, participate in other ways to strengthen the academic reputation of Walden University. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Physical Demands: The Faculty Member position is a Sedentary position. Faculty Members who teach in residencies or courses that have a face-to-face component are required to travel and to engage in physical demands customarily associated with traditional teaching methods and tasks, e.g., walking, standing, talking, and other physical demand functions as are necessary. Exertion levels, e.g. lifting and carrying, are minimal and are associated with the arrangement of the Faculty Member's work station, which is typically located at home or in an office setting. Workstations can be arranged according to the needs of the Faculty Member so as to ensure their comfort. The primary physical demands are handling a mouse, which requires reaching and handling, using a keyboard, which requires fingering, near vision (20 inches or less), and mid-range vision (more than 20 inches in distance) to focus on the computer monitor, or hard copy as is necessary. Depth perception (the judging of distances and spatial relationships) and visual accommodation (used to do near point work at varying distances) are not necessary to perform the work of the Faculty Member. Tools/Technical Skills:
Faculty members are required to have an adequate computer to handle eCollege, keyboard, mouse device, and computer monitor. All other tools are knowledge-based or training-based through Walden University. The Faculty Member must be able to use Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat and must have reliable Internet access as well as alternate access in cases where primary access becomes unavailable.
