JOB TITLE: Full-Time Faculty – Master of Science, Nursing (Informatics Background)

DIVISION: Walden University

REPORTS TO: Associate Dean of Nursing

STATUS: Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The School of Nursing seeks a faculty member with a strong background in informatics who understands the practice of nursing in general and the integration of nursing science, computer science and information science in particular. This is a Full-Time faculty position that reports to the Associate Dean of Nursing and has 80% teaching / 20% administrative responsibilities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Varies with a 80% teaching/20% administrative responsibility.
  • Teach nursing informatics courses as well as other nursing courses.
  • Assist in the development of courses in the new nursing informatics specialization and work with a team of nursing faculty, product managers, marketers, sales, and product developers to continually improve the nursing program and nursing informatics specialization in particular.
  • Works closely with the School of Nursing and College of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences academic administrators, academic advising and administrative staffs, and part-time graduate faculty.
  • Responsible for teaching courses in the informatics and other nursing specializations; course scheduling and assignment; facilitating curriculum review and update; working with other service units on curriculum matters; school and university committee service; scholarship; and evaluating the academic programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Candidates should possess a record of intellectual and professional contributions to the field of nursing in general and nursing informatics in particular, including experience in the practice of nursing
  • Demonstrated graduate teaching experience
  • Commitment to advocating for the learning and development needs of students earning their degrees in a distance learning environment
  • Be able to assist in the recruitment and development of a diverse faculty
  • Excellent leadership, communication, team, and human relations skills
  • Candidates should also have experience in student experience planning and assessment student, program, and school-based learning outcomes assessment
  • Service on dissertation supervisory committees and/or thesis committees desirable
  • Candidates should possess an earned doctorate level degree (preferably in Nursing) from an accredited institution
  • In addition, evidence of current RN licensure required. Must have at least a Masters of Science in Nursing
  • Experience with distance learning preferred
  • Must be able to travel
