Diversity in Nurse Anesthesia Miami Luncheon

I was lucky to have attended the diversity information session luncheon in Miami in October 2009. Unfortunately at the time I attended, I had already turned in my applications to the three schools I planned on attending. However the information session gave me valuable information on what I could do from here on out to make sure I get an interview. For two of those schools since I applied way before the deadline I was able to revise my essay to include pertinent information I left out. I believe attending the diversity information session gave me the confidence I needed to do great on my interviews and to get accepted into my top school.

I feel privileged to have attended the diversity information session luncheon in Miami on October 2009. Equipped with knowledge from the luncheon, i applied to two schools whose deadline i could still meet, because i never planned to apply at all this year before the luncheon. I was greatly motivated by the SRNAs that took time off their busy schedules to share their experiences with us and prepare us for the task ahead. The Speakers, the CRNAs and the Program Directors were very insightful and educative in their expectations from us. I thank Ms Lena for her time and energy in putting these events together.

I just want to thank Mrs. Wallena Gould for having a program geared towards minority students who want to pursue a career in anesthesia. I met Mrs. Gould almost a year ago via her website diversitycrna.org. Since then, she has been a constant source of inspiration and information.
I was one of the attendees of the Luncheon in Miami. I enjoyed meeting others in my same situation (as far as the prep and admission process) and regained confidence by speaking with CRNA's and SNRA's who have been through the process, and now know that this is doable...no matter how discouraging others may be when they hear you want to be a CRNA. I met great people who I can connect with in my future CRNA endevours. Thanks once again Mrs. Gould! I look forward to attending another infomation session with you in the near future!

I absolutely agree that the

I absolutely agree that the Diversity Information Session Luncheon was fabulous. It was information that I certainly did not have access to prior to going. To hear administrators from various Nurse Anesthesia programs say specifically what they are looking for in an applicant is one of the best tools in being prepared one could have. I appreciate the time and effort that was put into the luncheon (and the diversitycrna.org organization) by Walena Gould, board of directors, and speakers. If you couldn't make Miami, and you've never been to a Information session luncheon, it is a wise decision to make the investment of attending.
