Diversity in Nurse Anesthesia Luncheon LA/ NJ

I attended both Camden, NJ and LA luncheons. Overall, I was amazed to see a vast number of minorities intertested, currently applying, accepted, or in nurse anesthesia school. Those nurses that attended some were my own collegues at one time. I was very impressed with the University of Mianmi, University of Maryland programs, Samuel Merritt University programs. I was encouraged by those who struggled to get in and got in. I know that for some especially as a minority it is going to be a process. Attending both luncheon confirmed my desire for this profession. Nonetheless, the LA luncheon was interesting. I had the pleasure of get an overview of USC and Samuel Merritt program.I heard of nurse journwy to acceptance at Kaiser permanente program. I learned about a book written by a crna by John Marble, it's about his experience. I think the major lesson I've learned is that to not get discouraged, do what it takes to get in and do what it takes to stay in.

DNAMP

I recently went to the DNAMP luncheon in LA and first of all I have to say it was such an inspiring event! I can't thank Lena enough for inviting me and it was so nice to finally meet her. After listening to several crna students, program directors, and other notable speakers, I am now even more determined to pursue my goal of becoming a crna. I was able to network with other prospective students, nurses, and gained a greater insight into specific programs through presentations and videos from directors. The luncheon proved to be a great learning experience and I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend.
