DIVERSITY IN NURSE ANESTHESIA LUNCHEON IN CAMDEM NJ
I attended the Diversity in Nurse Anetheaia Mentordhip Program Luncheon in NJ last month. This was my first meeting after knowing about the association four days before that. I wish i had known about this long before. It was an amazing experience. I encourage all minority nurses who plan to go into anesthesia or those who are already in the program to attend these meetings if they can. You learn a lot from peers and experienced CRNAs.
Most important is the information those planning to get into anestheaia get. You are coached on how to prepare a very attractive application parkage, what schools to apply to, what schools are welcoming to minority students and more. You also have the oportunity to meet some program directors of anesthesia program and discuss with them. it is a very open forum to learn about your next career move.
To those who are already in the program you get help on how to study and stay in the program. I encourage all planning to get into nurse anesthesia to attend this luncheon. Find out about the next availble date and location and plan to attend. You will learn a lot. You will be able to appreciate how this creative idea by Wellena Gould while she was in anesthesia school is changing lives for young people all over the country.

Diversity in Nurse Anesthesia Luncheon, NJ
Sat, 05/09/2009 - 4:12am — djm921I attended the luncheon held at Rutger's University in March. I first must praise Lena Gould for being so supportive of so many people who are currently attending nurse anesthesia programs within the US. I was very moved by the camaraderie amongst students, perspective students, anesthesia practitioners and supporting friends and family members.
I had the opportunity to speak with two young ladies from Texas who were seeking information about programs and the expectations of the students and schools. I had just been accepted at Villanova University so I was able to share my application and interview experience with the young ladies.
It was due to Lena's support and encouragement that I was able to transform into a successfully competitive candidate, so I wanted to be able to impart some useful information to these young ladies- sort of as paying it forward.
In addition to giving useful information, I too received valuable information from different speakers present at the luncheon. When I left, I had a lot to think about that I had not previously considered. All in all, The luncheon was such an amazing experience that had me more excited about school and the new challenges that lay ahead.
Thank you Lena for your desire and commitment to help and mentor others such as myself. It is an honor knowing you and having you as part of my support network.
