Diversity in NA Mentorship Program
Hello all, my name is Rosalind. I'm from the Detroit metro area. I currently work in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit. This winter, while surfing the internet for information on minorities in the NA field, I ran across Lena's website and I decided to contact her. At the time, I was looking for somebody to offer insight, to be a sounding board for my frustrations and to possibly explain the reason for the shortage of minorities in the NA field. Since contacting her, Lena has been an invaluable resource and source of encouragement to me. Lena is very easy to talk to, very giving of her time and truly committed to having more minorities in the NA field.
I will be attending the upcoming luncheon in New Jersey. This will be my first year of many years to come of attending the luncheons. While this year I will be there to gain knowledge, in future years I will be there to share knowledge. I look forward to hearing from Mr. Frank Purcell, BS (AANA Senior Federal Affairs Director) and meeting Lena in person, we spend so much time communicating she feels like an old friend to me. I am also very excited about meeting and learning from the two NA Program Directors that will be in attendance. It will be an opportunity to pick their brains about what they look for in an applicant to their program. The luncheon will be an excellent occasion to meet SRNAs and CRNAs and gain additional knowledge regarding successfully entering and completing a NA program.
