Our 2013 Scholarship Winner

And the winner is…

Ngoc Tram D. Nguyen!

Originally from Vietnam, Tram has endured many hardships in her life. She was born with cataracts in both eyes and was legally blind. She lost two uncles during the war. She lost her grandmother from a stroke twelve years ago when her family couldn’t afford the emergency room costs. On top of everything else, she had surgery in 1st grade, which ended up causing further eye damage. It wasn’t until she was 20 years old that she was able to receive implants—allowing her to have 20/20 vision for the first time in her life.  Because of her own experience with a surgery going horribly wrong she understands all too well the importance of proper health care, which is why she decided to dedicate her life to improving the quality of care for others. In addition to overcoming great personal adversities, Tram works part time and actively volunteers with her church while being a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Congratulations, Tram!
